During their shopping trip, K and Caleb overheard a group of kids discussing a haunted house opening later that evening for Halloween.

Kid #1: “Did you guys hear about the new haunted house opening tonight on 467 Riley Street?”

Kid #2: “We should go! I heard there will be all kinds of scary things there. Monsters, zombies, mummies, and vampires!”

Group Of Kids: OOOOO YEAH!!!!

After leaving the store, Caleb and Kara walk to the park to discuss what they had heard.

Caleb: “That haunted house sounds fun, let’s check it out!”

Kara: “Sure! Believe it or not, I’ve never been to one. I can’t wait, but I’ll have to ask my parents first.”

Caleb: “Me too.”

Kara Encounters A Halloween Party Thrown By Her Parents At Their House

After spending a couple of hours at the park, Kara and Caleb returned home to prepare for their outing. When K entered her house, she discovered that her parents were hosting an adult Halloween party while the kids were enjoying their own celebration in the guest room.

About an hour into the party, someone knocks on the door. K opens it, realizes it’s Caleb, and jumps for joy.

Kara: “Hey! I’m glad you made it. Welcome to the party! I see you aren’t wearing a costume.”

Caleb: “Nope! I know my parents are here, and they’d probably rather I stay and play with the other kids than go to the haunted house. But I really want to go! Did you ask your parents?”

K: “Not yet. Give me a second.”

After talking with Caleb, K darts into the kitchen and asks her parents if she can go with Caleb to the haunted house.

K: “Mom, Dad, can I go to the haunted house with Caleb, please?”

Mom: “I don’t know, honey. Your father and I are not comfortable letting you go without our supervision. Besides, we are in the middle of a party.”

As disappointed as she was, Kara decided to break the bad news to Caleb. Instead of accepting no for an answer, Caleb had a plan in mind. He grabbed K’s hand and walked her upstairs to the guest room.

Caleb: “If we want to get to that haunted house, we’ll need to climb out of this window.”

Kara: “Eh, I’m afraid, but ok I’ll do it. I’ll look for a rope or something.”

Caleb: “Let’s hope it doesn’t get any worse than this.”

K: “I hope not!”

As they continued walking slowly through the spooky area, two giant monsters jumped out, scaring them and other visitors.

Caleb and K finally got away from the monsters, but Kara was still scared.

K: “My heart is racing, and I’m ready to leave.”

Caleb: “Okay, Kara. Come on, let’s go.”

Because Kara is terrified, Caleb began to panic and struggled to think clearly, especially since he didn’t know where the exit was.

Caleb: “Uh, Kara? I think we may be lost.”

Kara: “Lost!!! We can’t be lost; I thought you knew the way out of here?”

Caleb: “With everything happening and how dark it is in here, I’m having trouble thinking clearly. Take my hand, and let’s keep looking until we find the exit.”

Kara And Caleb Finally Make It Out Of The Haunted House

After spending ten minutes searching for a way out, Caleb and Kara finally escaped the haunted house. Seeing how shaken Kara was, Caleb felt sorry for her. As they walked home, he noticed Kara’s parents rushing down the street toward them, eager to embrace them.

Kara’s Dad: “Thank God we found you guys! We were worried sick! Come here!”

Kara’s Mom: “You’re grounded, young lady! How could you go against your father’s and my wishes? Caleb, your parents are waiting for you at our house—they’ve been extremely worried. Your mother even fainted when she realized you weren’t here or at home.”

K’s Dad: “But what matters most right now is that you’re both safe and okay.”
