More than one in four Americans have got some seriously sneaky sickness beliefs! 🤧 According to recent research, they’re masters at the art of “willing away” their ailments!

A poll of 2,000 Americans revealed the truth! 🗣️ Until they’ve got cold sweats or chills (48%), a fever (46%), or even some vibrant green snot (yikes, 21%), they’re sticking to their “I’m fine, totally not sick” mantra! 🤒

Sure, they might have a few other tell-tale signs like body aches (46%) or a juicy cough (juicy indeed, 19%), but it takes them two days of symptoms before they finally admit, “Okay, I might be unwell.” 🙅‍♂️🤷‍♀️

Nearly three in five respondents (59%, to be precise) are guilty of using the classic “it’s just allergies” excuse! 🤧 However, they’re not so gullible themselves! Only 20% would fall for that line from someone else! 👀

If they wake up tomorrow with a sore throat, guess what? One-third (34%!) would confidently pin it on allergies! 🌸🤧 “Nah, I’m not sick, just some allergy magic!” they’d say. Yet, 16% would consider themselves sick, while another 14% would blame it all on the weather! ☀️❄️

The Icky Sick Bug Strikes Twice A Year: Mucinex’s Revealing Super Survey!

Mucinex conducted this super survey with OnePoll, and what did they discover? The average person gets hit by the icky sick bug twice a year! 🤧 Nevertheless, 37% of people tend to play the “ignore game” with their symptoms at least once during those times! 🙈

Runny nose, cough, headache, body aches – the list of ignored symptoms goes on! Who knew a runny nose could be such a sneaky culprit, with 45% of folks choosing to brush it off like no biggie? 😆 Coughs (33%), headaches (29%), and body aches (26%) are also the underdog symptoms that get shrugged off like it’s just another Tuesday.

When those annoying ailments stick around, the average person takes about two days to admit they’re not feeling their best. 🕒 But here’s the million-dollar question – how do people handle that first day of feeling under the weather? 🤔 More than one-third of courageous souls (36%) power through and soldier on at work instead of taking a sick day (25%). 💪

Why, you may ask? Ah, the age-old dilemma of losing a day of pay (31%) and work piling up (22%), making people hesitate to call in sick. But here’s the thing – 37% of troopers believe working takes their minds off being sick! 🤯 It looks like the best medicine for feeling under the weather is a good dose of…work!

WHY DO AMERICANS AVOID TAKING A SICK DAY FROM WORK?

  • I don’t want to lose a day of pay – 31%
  • I don’t want my work to pile up – 22%
  • No one else can handle/knows how to do my job – 21%
  • My workload is too heavy – 16%
  • My boss/manager will be unhappy with me – 16%
  • I worry my coworkers are already too busy – 14%
  • My coworkers will be unhappy with me – 10%

Wait a minute; healthy coworkers have something to say about ailments! According to almost three-quarters (71% of people!), coming to work when you’re sick is just downright rude! 🙅‍♂️ It’s like bringing the icky germs party to the office, and nobody’s thrilled about that guest list!

“We want to remind people that taking care of their health should always be a top priority, and that includes taking the time to rest and recover when necessary,” Albert So, marketing director of Mucinex, said. “It’s important to understand your body and your symptoms so you can choose the right medication to address your needs.”

When Ailments Strike: Feeling Down For The Count! 🤧🤕 🤧🤕

My least favorite symptoms are those that sometimes leave us feeling like we’re down for the count! 🤧🤕 You know, the ones that make us wanna curl up in a cozy blanket fort and hibernate!

Fever is the ultimate troublemaker, striking 56% of respondents! 🌡️Not to mention general weakness, affecting 39% of the fighters out there. 💪 It’s like our energy goes on vacation without us!

Stomachs, oh dear, those little rebels, are making 26% of respondents wave the white flag! 🤢 They’ve got a whole circus of their own going on!

Now about body aches 🤕 A solid 37% feel like they’ve run a marathon without even moving an inch! And those pounding headaches! Ouch! They’re taking over the minds of 30% of the gang! 😫

But you know what’s fascinating? The power of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)! It’s like a superhero, pushing people to conquer their symptoms for the most unexpected events! 💪💃

35% power through for funerals! Respect! Paying their respects despite the discomfort! 34% won’t let anything stop them from saying “I do” at their own wedding! That’s love conquering all! ❤️

And vacations – those relaxing getaways! 34% won’t let anything rain on their parade of paradise! ☀️🌴

In addition, some people just won’t let their loved ones down! 24% take one for the team and persist with school pick up and drop off! 🚸

And how about this? 16% are superheroes attending someone else’s wedding despite their symptoms! They deserve a medal! 🏅

Mucinex commissioned this random double-opt-in survey of 2,000 general population Americans between April 14 and April 19, 2023.
