Researchers surveyed 2,000 people who work mostly or entirely from home to find out how the work-from-home experience has changed over the years. Before the pandemic era, when life was wild and free, people were like nomadic workers, roaming from place to place. Hotels (43%), a friend’s or family member’s crib (36%), or even coffee shops (28%) – they were all fair game for getting stuff done!

Some brave souls transformed their cars into mobile offices (28%) – talk about multitasking while on the move! Plus, some beach lovers even soaked up the waves and worked at the same time (8%)! That’s dedication to work and Vitamin Sea!

But there’s a twist in this remote work evolution! The tide has turned, and 63% of the surveyed folks have embraced the ultimate transformation: a dedicated home office! Farewell hotel lobbies and beachside shenanigans – it’s all about working like a boss from your home sweet home!

A quarter of these brave souls (25%) are screaming for more space, and 31% are on the struggle bus trying to divide their time evenly. DIY Workspace Makeover: 68% Seek To Spruce Up Their Home Office

The evolution of remote work is truly amazing! A SURPRISING 35% say they couldn’t even manage their job if they were stuck with their initial home office setup! Progress!

But why the big change? 63% of employees wanted to make working easier and more efficient. And 52% needed a comfy workspace—because who doesn’t love lounging while working?

Distractions, begone! 43% needed to banish those pesky interruptions from their work environment, while 37% needed more space to unleash their productivity.

But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows in a work-from-home paradise! For 44%, their home is practically one giant office these days! Can we get a designated “chill zone,” please?

68% agree that their workspace needs some serious sprucing up. It’s like a DIY project waiting to happen!

And the shopping list goes on! 70% still have items on their wish list that would make their work-from-home life even sweeter. Storage, office décor, a more oversized desk—bring it on! Home offices deserve an upgrade, too, right?

The Voice Of 2,000 Employees: Office Depot Remote Work Survey

This random double-opt-in survey of 2,000 remote and hybrid employees who primarily work from home was commissioned by Office Depot between March 20 and March 23, 2023. It was conducted by market research company OnePoll, whose team members are members of the Market Research Society and have corporate membership to the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) and the European Society for Opinion and Marketing Research (ESOMAR).
